Sisters, I give you permission to fully embrace the season of life that you find yourself in, even if it isn’t where you thought you’d find yourself. God has not forgotten about you. He has not forsaken you. He is with you right where you are and He is pleased with you.
Who are you?
I am a wife and mother from the south side of Chicago. I serve as the worship leader of Reconciliation Church where my husband, Glen, is the pastor. I am currently pursuing a Master of Divinity at Fuller Theological Seminary and hope to one day create biblical resources for women.
Did you always dream of being where you are today? If no, then what was your dream?
Yes and no. I have always dreamed of going to seminary and after a 15 year delay, I have finally started. In terms of my career in the beauty industry, I never imagined I’d be working in aesthetics. However, I see it as a opportunity to minister to other women when I am providing services for them.
What moment or conversation changed your life?
The most recent life changing moment for me was an Instagram post I saw from Priscilla Shirer. I will be turning 40 later this year and I was having a season of frustration because I wasn’t where I thought I’d be at this age. I thought by now I’d have a thriving para-church organization for women and that would be my vocation. Earlier this year I sensed a tug to start a business and I fought the urge because it didn’t seem to be aligned with where I saw myself. I began to pray to the Lord and ask for clarity and shortly thereafter I saw a post from Priscilla where she shared a conversation with an older woman who had been in ministry for many years. In the conversation she ask the woman how to start a ministry. The woman replied, “You don’t. You let God bring it to you.” At that moment I realized that God had not brought the ministry that he placed in my heart to me so it wasn’t yet time. I felt an overwhelming peace that assured me that I was right where God wanted me and I had to continue to trust his plan.
What lesson learned is guiding you through life?
God has been teaching me a lot about timing. I’ve heard it time and time again, but now I realize more than ever that God’s timing truly is perfect. He sees me and has my life in the palm of his hand.
